Probe ordered into aid ‘denial’ to minorities

Staff Report

SUKKUR: President Asif Ali Zardari has taken serious notice of media reports that some members of the minority community had been denied flood relief assistance and had been driven out of the relief camps. He called for an inquiry and an immediate action against officials, if found involved.

The president’s spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said that the president taking note of media reports of a protest rally in Hyderabad on Monday against the maltreatment of Dalits in flood relief, called for a probe into the matter and steps to ensure that no discrimination was shown in the relief and rehabilitation operations.

“Discrimination on ethnic grounds will not be tolerated,” the president said.

He called for an inquiry into the reports of discrimination and appropriate measures to ensure that the relief work was not influenced by such considerations
