ISLAMABAD: Acting President Farooq H Naik said that minorities have equal rights in the country and suggestion is under discussion to give special seats to minorities in the Senate.
Expressing these views during a meeting with Swedish Ambassador to Pakistan Ulrika Sundberg, Farooq H Naik said that there is no discrimination with minorities in the country and they are equally treated. He said that Constitution of the country protects the rights of minorities in the country.
He said that government is working on priority basis for the prosperity of minorities in the country and a separate ministry is also established for them. Farooq H Naik said that government has fixed five percent specific job quota for minorities while every year Aug 11 is celebrated as Minorities’ Day.
Farooq H Naik thanked Swedish Ambassador to Pakistan Ulrika Sundberg and government for playing important role in development of social departments of the country and for their active role of Sweden in Friends Of Pakistan Forum. Appreciating the different steps of Government for the development of minorities Swedish Ambassador to Pakistan Ulrika Sundberg said that these steps would be useful for inter-religious harmony.
During the meeting both the participants agree that terrorists are enemy of humanity and joint efforts should be done to eliminate them. -Online
